Everybody’s got a story, and in the words of one of my most inspirational thinkers, Garbor Mate – “in everyone’s life, there are things that should have happened that didn’t and there are things that shouldn’t have happened, that did”.
I saw a lecture in which he spoke of what happens psychologically and emotionally to a child when they’re allowed to cry out – meaning, no one comes to soothe them when they are distressed. Apparently it leaves the child feeling emotionally empty and not cared for.
Everyone’s got their truths, some we accept others we refuse to see but the reality is we only have now to do, to be and to feel free.
I was one of those kids, left to cry out – it hadn’t really dawned on me until reading that book. Suddenly things begin to make sense and I understood that gnawing feeling inside.
